Inspector caught with unaccounted Rs. 10 lakh

The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday detained an Inspector of Adilabad district police, D. Bhoomaiah, while he was carrying Rs. 10 lakh cash on the outskrits of Hyderabad.

On a tip-off, the ACB sleuths intercepted the car near the Outer Ring Road at Rajendranagar, in which Bhoomaiah was travelling, with another person. They had information that the inspector was acquiring a property at Kamsanipalli village of Basheerabad mandal in Vikarabad district.

Initially, the Inspector claimed that the money belonged to the person accompanying him. However, the person told the ACB officials, “I was asked by the Inspector to accompany him as witness for registration of a property.” A document pertaining to purchase of 17 acres of agricultural land was also found in the car, according to which he had paid Rs. 15 lakh as advance. He could not explain the source of the money,ACB Additional SP Mr. Ramana Kumar said.

A case of criminal misconduct under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered.

Subsequently, searches were conducted at eight places in Karimnagar and Jagitial districts. Bhoomaiah’s house in Secunderabad was also searched.
