Scores of youngsters formed a massive human chain around Hussain Sagar with a message ‘Save Lakes’ here on Sunday. The human chain was formed as part of sailing week held annually in the city.
Around 6,000 youth, including students of Army public schools, those from National Cadet Corps and Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, formed the chain covering 3.5 km. Former India cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin inaugurated the event.
The Hyderabad Sailing Week would commence on July 3. During the week, multi-class national-level sailing championship would be held for the 33rd consecutive year. Speaking on the occasion, Major General T.S.A. Narayanan, Vice Commodore of EME Sailing Association said, “Hyderabad is a popular destination for sailing in the country. The wind conditions in June and July are most favourable in Hussain Sagar to hone the skills of sailors in boat handling and understanding the wind shifts,” Mr. Narayanan said.
