Home Guard restores lost cash to octogenarian

A Home Guard, who found Rs. 30,000 cash lying on road, has handed over the money to its owner, a senior citizen in Purasawalkam, with the help of the Vepery police.

B. Rajan, 42, a Home Guard for 18 years and electrician by profession, was walking on Kandappa Achari Street in Purasawakkam on Thursday when he stumbled on to the cash bundle.

He handed it over to police officials.

On Friday, Gajendran, 82, a resident living on the same street came to the station and registered a complaint about the missing cash.

He had withdrawn it from the bank for expenses to drill a borewell but lost the bag on the way home. After verifying his documents, police handed the cash to Gajendran through Rajan.

Rajan’s integrity was appreciated by City Police Commissioner A.K.Viswanathan.
