Heavy road damage in Malappuram

A Central team visited the flood-affected areas in the district on Sunday. The team, comprising NITI Aayog adviser Yogesh Suri, joint adviser Avinash Mishra, Central Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Department additional adviser Dinesh Chandra, and Central Road Transport and Highway regional officer V.V. Sastri, examined the destruction wreaked by the floods at Nilambur and Karuvarakundu. People complained to the team members about the losses suffered in the floods. The team started inspection from the Odayikkal regulator-cum-bridge. The walls of the approach road leading to the bridge have crumbled. The road was destroyed in a gush of floodwaters caused by a landslip. The team visited the pump house at Nilambur and several houses in the vicinity. The members gave a patient listening to the people of the Mathilmoola Scheduled Caste colony near Nilambur. Sixteen houses in the colony were destroyed by landslips near Adyanpara. Twenty houses were damaged.
