Officials of the Customs Unit seized foreign currency and gold paste from five international passengers at the Tiruchi International Airport on Thursday and detained them. Currency worth Rs. 8.31 lakh and about 1.83 kg of gold valued at Rs. 55.75 lakh was seized from them.
Four passengers who arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai were detained by the officials.
The four – Nizam Mytheen, Abdul, Mohamed Ashique and Mazhar Hussain – all aged 25 – 30 years had concealed the gold paste on their legs by wrapping them with bandage.
