Five suspected robbers held at railway station

The Government Railway Police (GRP) nabbed five persons in connection with a series of cases linked to robberies and illegal transportation of ganja on Thursday morning, and recovered 10 kg of ganja from their possession.

According to GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police S.M. Ramesh Babu, the accused were identified as D. Purushottam, M. Satish, Sayyed Basha, A. Rami Reddy and P. Surya.

They were apprehended based on a tip-off, while alighting a train at the railway station.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Babu said preliminary investigation revealed the accused to be habitual offenders.

Multiple cases

They had eight cases of smuggling and robbery registered against them at various GRP stations.

Recalling a recent robbery on July 20 midnight, Mr. Babu said that investigation by GRP CI M. Aseervadam revealed the involvement of the five accused in the crime.In the incident, a gang of five unidentified persons attacked a senior assistant loco pilot.

The gang also has several cases registered against them at central crime station in Tirupati, Renigunta and Chittoor.
