The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association’s (KGMOA) continued its protest in front of the District Medical Office here on the second day on Tuesday against the authorities for not taking action against those who confined and mentally harassed a doctor.
Dr. Reshmi, in-charge of Binanipuram primary health centre in Kadungalloor grama panchayat, was subjected to confinement during a protest by AIYF activists demanding a lab technician for the health centre.
Police came to the rescue of the doctor and later she filed a police complaint under the Kerala Health Services Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and damage to property) Act.
Following this, the protesters allegedly started insulting Dr. Reshmi through social media. Commenting on the protest, K.H. Deepa, district president of KGMOA, said, “the authorities are ignoring the protest by the KGMOA for the last two days. The protest will continue till the police take action against the culprits according to hospital protection Act.”
“Complaints have been forwarded to the Chief Minister, Health Minister, District Collector, Additional Secretary (Health), Rural SP and Cyber Cell. If the complaint is ignored, the protest will be intensified,” said K.B. Shinil, district secretary of KGMOA.
