A worker of a fireworks manufacturing unit at Thillayadi on Wednesday died after a package of fire crackers he was carrying on a two-wheeler exploded in Sembanarkovil limits.
Rajamanickam (23) of Kesavanpalayam was transporting the package for delivery to organisers of the Mariamman Temple festival at Koduvai, police sources said.
‘Package heated up’
He was seated behind a co-worker, Satish (25) of Panchankuppam near Paringipettai in Cuddalore district, and died on the spot in the explosion that reportedly occurred after the package heated up on coming into contact with the two-wheeler’s silencer, the sources added.
Satish was admitted to Mayiladuthurai Government Hospital with grievous injuries.
The Sembanarkovil police have registered a case.
