Daati rape victim moves plea

The woman who filed a sexual assault case against self-styled god-man Daati Maharaj approached the Delhi High Court on Tuesday seeking a CBI probe into the case.

Ashrams’ seizure sought

The woman has also demanded seizure of the ashrams of the self-styled godman and immediate arrest of the accused in the case.

The High Court last week has asked an NGO, which sought a CBI probe into the case, to file a fresh plea along with the woman’s affidavit.

The Bench observed that since the NGO, which filed the plea, was not the victim, it had no locus in the matter. The NGO had then withdrawn the plea.

The incident came to light after the woman filed a case at Fatehpur Beri police station alleging rape and unnatural sex against the self-style godman, the founder of the Delhi-based Shree Shanidham Trust.

A complaint was lodged against Daati Madan Lal alias Daati Maharaj on June 7 and an FIR was registered on June 11. The police had on June 22 questioned the accused, who was charged with raping a disciple in his ashrams in Delhi and Rajasthan.

The woman had filed the complaint against the preacher, his three brothers and a woman at Fatehpur Beri police station in south Delhi. The case was later transferred to the Crime Branch.

‘No faith’

Advocate Pradeep Tiwari, who is representing the victim, told
the Hindu
that his client does not have any faith in the investigation currently conducted by the Crime Branch.

“The investigation officer, since the beginning of the investigation has not conducted the investigation based on the relevant information, facts, evidence, and statement made by the victim,” Mr Tiwari alleged.

He also said that the victim has been threatened to withdrew her case or face dire consequences.
