Referring to the pendency of cases throughout the country, Judge of Supreme Court Mohan Shantanagoudar has said that there should be a perfect coordination between the Bar and Bench to dispense with speedy justice to the litigant public.
Speaking at the decennial celebrations of the Dharwad Bench of the High Court of Karnataka here on Saturday, Mr. Shantanagoudar said that the litigant public approached courts with lot of faith in the judiciary and advocates should not let them down.
He said that the State demanded the best efforts both from the legal professionals and the judges to ensure maintenance of law. Mr. Shantanagoudar also urged young advocates to become good human beings first and then, good lawyers.
Quoting Martin Luther King Junior, he stressed the need for advocates not to stop the pursuit of excellence. Mr. Shantanagoudar also highlighted the point that the litigant public approached courts as a last resort and it was the bounden duty of the judiciary to ensure speedy justice to them.
Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka Dinesh Maheshwari expressed satisfaction over the growth of the Dharwad Bench in the first decade of its establishment. He, however, pointed out that constant monitoring and timely action was needed to curb the growth of unwanted things and said that the decennial celebration was an occasion for lawyers to introspect and rededicate themselves to the cause of legal services.
Mr. Maheshwari said that judges wanted advocates to help them in delivering speedy justice to the litigant public by providing correct and true facts of their legal cases without delay. And, for that to happen, advocates should be well prepared, he said.
Advocate-General Uday Holla spoke. High Court judge R.B. Budihal and former judges of the High Court B.S. Patil, B. Srinivase Gowda and Ratnakala were felicitated on the occasion. Responding to the felicitation, the recipients stressed on the significance of maintaining dignity and integrity of the judiciary.
Dharwad High Court Bench Bar Association president R.D. Desai, who presided over the function, appealed to the Chief Justice to permit filing of Public Interest Litigations petitions and Writ Petitions related to Company matters at the Dharwad Bench.
