Cong. leader Vikhe-Patil diagnosed with dengue

Senior Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said on Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with dengue. Mr. Vikhe-Patil tweeted, “During the Monsoon Session of the State Legislature in Nagpur I was diagnosed with dengue. Doctors have advised that I stay away from public functions from some days. Hence, I will not be able to attend my scheduled programmes for the next few days.”

According to sources close to the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, heavy rains in Nagpur in the first week of the monsoon session had caused flooding of Mr. Vikhe-Patil’s official residence at Ravi Bhavan.

Sources said the diagnosis was made after blood samples of the leader tested positive for the vector infection. A source said, “On the last day of the monsoon session [on July 20], Mr. Vikhe Patil had fever. But he still left for Delhi to attend the extended Congress Working Committee meeting. He had high fever throughout that day. After he returned to his hometown Loni [in Ahmednagar], his blood samples were taken and the diagnosis was made. His platelet count is also very low. Mr. Vikhe Patil has been advised complete rest.”
