Body of missing 15-year-old found near Dharmasthala

The body of a 15-year-old student from Bengaluru, who was reported missing on Wednesday, was found in a lake in Guruvayanakere, near Dharmasthala, on Thursday.

The boy, Yashwanth Sai K.P., was a Class 10 student of ITI Vidya Mandir in Dooravani Nagar. The family lives in Hoodi.

According to Belthangady police, some passers-by came across his school bag by the side of the lake, on Wednesday evening. The police and fire and emergency services personnel launched a search, and the body was recovered the next day. His ID card, Aadhaar card and bus tickets were found in his trouser pockets.

The boy’s father, Premkumar N.V., reached Guruvayanakere on Thursday and claimed the body.

Diary entry

Police said the boy had reached Belthangady on Wednesday morning and boarded a private bus heading towards Udupi. He had got off near the lake in Guruvayanakere. They found a diary in his bag in which he had written that he was going to Udupi to work for five months.

B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, SP, Dakshina Kannada district, said, “Some news channels expressed doubt that it might be a Blue Whale game-related case. But, no injury was found on the body. The investigation has not revealed any link to the game. The father of the boy said he was poor in studies and had not done well in school.”

An official from the school said the boy had been absent since Tuesday.

Mahadevapura police met the school authorities, who said he was average in studies. His friends and classmates had no idea of him leaving the city.
