A record 581 swimmers from all over India have registered for the Goa Swimathon 2019 event organised by the Panaji based Enduro Sports Goa. This record turnout could make this year’s Goa Swimathon 2019, arguably the most attended open water sea swim events in the country.
The annual event which is in its ninth edition will be held at the Bambolim beach on March 23 and March 24.
Out of 581 participants that have registered for the Goa Swimathon 2019, 54 are from Pune,177 from Mumbai, 140 from Bengaluru, 33 from Delhi and 30 from Goa. A total of 23 per cent of the participants registered are female.
Kety Patel (71), from Pune is the oldest female participant while BR Gopal Rao (72) from Bengaluru is the oldest male participant. The youngest of the tournament is Nishika Sangani,
8-years-old from Mumbai. Patel would be taking part in the 250 m sprint along with Sangani while Rao would be taking part in the 5 km challenge
The first day of the event will see swimmers take part in the 5km and 10km races, while on the second day 250 metres, 1km and 2km races will be open for participation.
Adding a deeper dimension to the event is the presence of several physically challenged swimmers.
