Three women workers travelling in a van died when the vehicle toppled near Dharapuram-Palani stretch on Monday.
More than 25 other women suffered multiple injuries. Two were rushed to Coimbatore for treatment.
Police said the workers were hired daily and transported to private spinning mills by contractors. They were picked up from different locations and dropped off at the mills.
On Monday, a van in which around 30 women were travelling toppled as it approached Mettupatti, situated between Salakadai and Paruthiyur. Veerammal of Kodangipatti and Parvathi of Manja Nayakanpatti died on the spot.
Ambulance services were deployed from different destinations. Police rushed to the spot and carried rescue operations and regulated traffic.
Doctors at Palani Government Hospital said out of the 17 injured, one Revathi died, thus taking the toll to three.
The police said 10 women were taken to Dharapuram GH and the condition of two was critical. They were rushed to a Coimbatore hospital for further treatment.
The police were probing into the causes for the accident. A case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the van driver.
