Strictly Come Dancing 2021 judge Anton Du Beke, 55, has insisted he “couldn’t care less” about the so-called “curse” of the BBC show, which sees couples ending relationships and starting romances with their dance partners during or after the series. Although many fans enjoy speculating about whether chemistry on the dance floor translates into a romance between the contestants behind-the-scenes, Anton has admitted he doesn’t “take any notice” of the rumours.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Anton declared: “I don’t really take any notice.
“It’s a dance and what I’m doing is, I’m creating a story and the narrative through the story is whatever it is.
“And like an actor or an actress, whatever you’re doing, there has to be an emotion attached to it.
“Otherwise it doesn’t translate and you won’t feel it by watching it, and it won’t have the impact that’s required to the audience and to the judges, so you’re only half doing a number!”
Anton then explained: “Now, this lasts from the moment when the music begins, and ends when the music finishes, because that’s the number.
“After that, it’s up to you what you do!
“I couldn’t care less!” The King of Ballroom added.
This year, AJ Odudu, 33, and Kai Widdrington, 26, have been at the centre of romance rumours.
The duo fuelled speculation after their romantic Movie Week performance to Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing.
Professional dancer Kai was heard telling TV presenter AJ: “Aww I I love you, I love you so much.”
AJ then admitted she enjoys the fact that she and Kai are “interesting” viewers in such a big way.
She told Manchester Evening News: “I find it exciting that everyone’s interested in us enough to take note of all of these things.

“The way I see it is, everyone can see how well we’re getting on and how hard we’re working in order to try our best each and every week to put in a solid performance.”
When quizzed on whether the romance rumours are true or not, AJ coyly replied: “Well, one thing that is definitely for sure is, we are doing a lot of dancing.”
AJ also said of the speculation surrounding her partnership with Kai: “It’s all just a bit of fun, isn’t it?
“I mean, at the end of the day, me and Kai are just focused on the Strictly experience as a whole, and we’re just focused on dancing and putting our best performance forward each and every week.
“So none of that stuff bogs us down at all.
“We don’t have time to be pressed to be totally honest with you.”
Some couples who have been hit by the Strictly “curse” are still together, with Dianne Buswell and Joe Sugg dating and living together after being paired on the show in 2018.
Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton are also living together after starting a romantic relationship following their 2018 Strictly win.
Strictly couple Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev have just welcomed their second baby after tying the knot in 2019.
