Selena Gomez and Rema‘s hit “Calm Down” has earned 1 billion streams on music streaming service Spotify.
“Calm Down” becomes the first track led by an African artist to garner one billion streams on Spotify.
“I’m so grateful. Love you @heisrema ! @Spotify @SpotifyAfrica,” Gomez responded to the good news. Meanwhile, Rema, who’s from Nigeria, said on Instagram that the milestone is a “blessing.”
“It’s a blessing. It’s not just a big win for me, my team and family, it’s also a big one for the culture. I feel really happy and I’m really proud of the fans as well for going back to the song and putting people on the song. Shout out to the DJs and everyone who made this possible,” Rema said in a press statement.
“Calm Down” is a song from Rema’s debut studio album Rave & Roses. It was released on February 11, 2022, through Jonzing World and Mavin as the album’s second single. The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the Adult Top 40, Afrobeats Song, Mainstream Top 40, Rhythmic, World Digital Song Sales charts.
