Scarlett recalled how she was comforted by Caroline while she was crying as the star told her to “just ignore them” after an appearance on Aftersun led to “the worst month” of her life.

Speaking to The Metro, Scarlett shared how the Love Island presenter comforted her following the online abuse.

She also admitted that she’s only recently come to terms with the incident, which took place three years ago.

She said: “It’s only now that I don’t cry about that time – even just a year ago if you’d asked me about it, I would have burst into tears as it was one of the worst months of my whole life.”

The star went on to detail how she wore an outfit that showed “a bit of cleavage”, but soon came under fire for it on social media.

“When I was asked to go on [Love Island] I remember thinking that if ever there was a show where I can wear something that shows a bit of cleavage, it’s Love Island,” she said.

Scarlett continued: “After all, it was a programme where women weren’t penalised for showing a bit of flesh, it was actually encouraged.

“But of course I soon discovered that you’re not allowed to show cleavage if you’re fat,” she added.

Scarlett was targeted by trolls on social media, all slamming her for her outfit and body-shaming her, which left the star devastated.

She went on to confess that trolls had even told her to “go and die” following her Aftersun appearance.

“After the show, I found out people were saying I should go and die, that they’d had to turn the TV off because I upset them so much because I was ugly,” she said.

She described Twitter as “exploding” after filming had wrapped and said she felt “embarrassed” as “nasty comments and articles” started to come out.

Scarlett reckons that there were “thousands of comments”.

The star went on to reveal that as she was in Palma Nova filming the episode, she was scared to get on a flight home.

“It was just horrific, I didn’t want to leave the house,” she added.

She went on to reveal how family members contacted her to check on her following her abuse.

2021 marks a year since the death of former Love Island presenter Caroline Flack by suicide.

The star’s death sparked the ‘Be Kind’ movement which aims to raise awareness of mental health issues.
