Gardeners’ World presenter and horticulturist Monty Don, 65, shared a rare insight into his family life on Thursday with a personal snap of his two dogs “watching TV”. The Instagram post showed Yorkshire Terrier, Patti, lying next to Golden Retriever, Nellie, on a sofa and garnered more than 40,000 likes from fans of the TV presenter.

Taking to Instagram, Monty treated his 768,000 followers to the rare picture of his two dogs.
The gardening expert simply captioned the post: “Watching TV, and showed his two dogs looking content as they lay next to each other surrounded by cushions.
The post sparked an emotional reaction from fans as they took to the social media platform to share their love for the picture.
One wrote: “Beautiful friends”, with a red heart emoji, while another quipped: “[It’s] emotional to see them together”.
The horticulturalist’s fans were quick to ask what it was that the pups were watching last night.
A follower wondered: “Watching themselves on TV?”
Assuming that Patti and Nellie were watching themselves, one fan asked: “Do they recognise themselves on the TV?”
Another penned: “Oh, Nell and Patty are adorable.”
On the rare occasion the presenter does share pictures of his dogs, the two are always together.
But the intimate post was bittersweet as there was one dog missing from the snap – Monty’s beloved Gold Retriever, Nigel.
Last May Monty took to social media to break the devastating news to his followers that his dog had died.
Posting a photo of the Retriever in his garden, he wrote: “I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died.

“To the end he was happy, healthy and his usual calm, lovely self.”
He continued: “But he was suddenly taken ill and he slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls.”
The gardening expert finished his post: “Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye.”
In September Monty revealed to his followers that he was dedicating his latest book My Garden World to his beloved dog.
He penned: “Today is publication day of ‘My Garden World’ – available online and at every good bookshop.
“These two were with me every day I wrote, walked and worked.
“Nigel died the day after I wrote the last word- so the book is dedicated to his memory.”
