Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have lobbied the White House in hopes of getting A$AP Rocky released from a Swedish prison where he is being detained for assault after a street fight, Page Six can confirm.
A source close to the situation told us West, 42, asked his wife to “bring this to the President’s attention.”
Kardashian, 38, has worked closely with Donald Trump on prison reform in the U.S. over the past year, and West has also been very supportive of the President.
Our source also said the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star first contacted the White House two weeks ago, when news first broke of Rocky’s detainment, to “see if there was anything that can be done to release him.”
According to TMZ, Kardashian spoke to Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who took the matter to the President.
Our source said West and Kardashian have been “very concerned” over reports that Rocky has been placed in a facility with “inhumane conditions and was being “treated poorly,” adding that the couple is “very hopeful that the Swedish government will release him soon.”
Rocky’s manager John Ehmann was the first to blast the prison’s alleged “inhumane conditions” on social media, stating that the rapper was under “24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human functions.”
The governor of the Kronoberg Detention Center, where Rocky is being held, denied the allegations to us.
“During the last few years, we have completed a large reconstruction where all the prison cells as well as the rest of the remand prison have been completely renovated,” Fredrik Wallin said.
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department has been briefed on Rocky’s situation. A spokesperson previously said, “There are certainly some facts about the arrest and detention that raise concerns.”
The rep added, “We expect all governments, including Sweden, to treat American citizens fairly and with respect. We hope to see ASAP Rocky and his colleagues back on tour and reunited with friends and family soon.”
The Swedish Prosecutor’s Office told Page Six the prosecutor for this case has until Friday to decide how to prosecute Rocky or whether to extend his time in prison, which the courts will then “decide whether to accept the extension of the period or not.”
Rocky’s alleged attackers have also been detained for molestation and assault.
