Kate Garraway blushes after Xander Armstrong toilet incident

Kate Garraway was left mortified after she was dealt an embarrassing blow when she stepped away from her desk for a quick toilet break.

The 56-year-old spoke about the incident on Smooth Radio today as she admitted being unable to face Alexander Armstrong who presents his own radio show on Classic FM.

“So as I was saying, I had quite the morning, ” she told listeners. “I got in super early to do some work before coming on-air to do the show on Smooth.”

Kate went on: “And my laptop needed an update. You know, those annoying ones that you can’t avoid. I thought I’ll just close my eyes for a few seconds when it does.

“Next thing I know it’s hours later and I get up, and rush to the loo to wake myself up. I’m sitting there in a sleepy state. I forgot to lock the door.

“Alexander Armstrong from Classic FM burst in. He said, ‘Oh my God Kate, I’m so sorry.'”

A mortified Kate mused: “Oh it was toe-curling. I haven’t faced him yet. He’s still on-air. I’m so embarrassed.”

She asked listeners: “Has anything like that happened to you? Share my pain.”

The Good Morning Britain presenter urged listeners to call in and share their own embarrassing stories as she relived the awkward moment.

Kate later took to Instagram and shared a clip from her radio show detailing the blunder with her 1.1 million followers as she issued an apology to Alexander.

She penned: “Just another day in the office …. ?! So sorry @xander.armstrong @smoothradio.”

Fans reacted to the post with social media users praising the broadcasters.

One wrote: “All the very best Kate,” while another penned: “Thank you Kate & Alexander for this. Wishing you success & best wishes in everything you do.”

Alexander has yet to address the moment as he took to his Instagram stories ahead of his radio show to praise young violinist Christian Li, 16.
