Kate Ferdinand took to Instagram on Wednesday evening to share her recovery story with fans after having an emergency caesarean section with new baby, Cree.
The new mum opened up to her 1.4 million followers about feeling “traumatised” following the c-section. “My emotions were all over the place,” she explained. “I was feeling terrible guilt and my anxiety was at an all time high. I was quite traumatised to be honest!”
Kate also said that she “found the recovery really difficult at the beginning.” The 29-year-old’s c-section wasn’t planned, so she described the ordeal as “unexpected.” She wrote: “Where it was so unexpected I couldn’t quite get my head around not being able to do the things I thought I would be able to…”

Kate took the opportunity to champion more care and conversation around post-birth issues. “No one really warns you of this,” she said. “I think it’s really important that we talk about what happens after giving birth and that not everything is ‘perfect.’”
Thankfully, Kate assured her fans that she’s “feeling so much better now.”
She continued: “I’m finally feeling back to myself. For anyone in the early stages of a c-section recovery my advice is to REST. Don’t beat yourself up too much and I promise you will feel back to yourself eventually! It feels in those first six weeks that you will never be able to do anything again but remember you’ve had major surgery and you will get back to normal. It just takes some time.”

Cree is Kate’s first child with her husband, former footballer Rio Ferdinand. Just over a week after he was born, Kate posted to her Instagram explaining what she’d been through and the guilt she was feeling.
“After having an emergency c section, and a bit of a traumatic birth I’ve been completely wiped out,” she said. The picture accompanying her statement showed Kate with huge bruises on her thigh, left over from the operation.
“I wanted to share this with you. This is me… and let me add this is a much better version of me than the last 10 days,” the star admitted.

“The happiness has been overwhelming but so have the tears and emotions, I’ve felt like I can’t do what I’m meant to be doing with Cree as I haven’t been able to change or feed him consistently which has had me feeling all types of guilt, for Cree, Rio & that I can’t be doing what I normally do for the kids.
“It’s a whirlwind I just wasn’t expecting … but at the same time the most perfect whirlwind.”
Cree is the latest addition to the Ferdinand family. Kate is step-mum to Rio’s three children – Tate, Lorenz and Tia – from his first marriage to Rebecca Ellison. Rebecca sadly passed away in 2015 after a battle with breast cancer.
Kate revealed in a Q&A session on Wednesday evening that the family of five have “worked really hard to get to where [they] are now.”
