Jeremy Clarkson slammed Meghan as an ‘advertising hoarding’ in Queen tribute

Jeremy Clarkson issues apology to Meghan and Harry

Jeremy Clarkson took to his newspaper column last year to pay an emotional tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, describing the late Monarch as “our unchanging rock”.

But he also used the opportunity to aim a savage swipe at Meghan Markle.

The former Top Gear presenter, 62, reflected on the Queen’s 70-year reign by writing in The Sun at the time: “What’s truly incredible is that she never really changed.

“It was pointed out this week that she never went out of fashion because she was never in it. That is so true. And so admirable.”

Before going on to take a dig at Prince Harry’s wife, adding: “She didn’t see herself, as Meghan does, as a clothes horse or an advertising hoarding for people who make frocks and earrings.”

Queen Elizabeth II died at age 96 whilst surrounded by her loved ones at Balmoral on September 8 2022.

During his lengthy column, Jeremy also thanked the Queen for her service to the nation.

He also admitted that whilst he usually enjoys the process of writing his newspaper columns, he found the 2022 tribute “very hard.”

Jeremy continued his criticism against the Duchess of Sussex and, in December, wrote a widely-criticised column for The Sun where he said: “Meghan, though, is a different story. I hate her. Not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West. I hate her on a cellular level.”

Before going on to add: “At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

The column received a furious backlash and became the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s most complained about article, with more than 25,000 complaints lodged.

Jeremy later released an apologetic statement describing his language as “disgraceful” and also saying he was “profoundly sorry” for the column, which was taken offline by The Sun.

He claimed to have emailed Harry and Meghan to apologise to them too.

Representatives for the couple responded to the apology, writing: “While a new public apology has been issued today by Mr. Clarkson, what remains to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories, and misogyny.

“Unless each of his other pieces were also written ‘in a hurry,’ as he states, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident shared in haste, but rather a series of articles shared in hate.”
