Jennifer Lopez became tearful as she was recognised at Sunday's MTV Movie & TV Awards in California, where she picked up the Generation Award.
After taking to the stage, the singer-turned-actress, 52, was unable to mask her emotions as she shed a tear and thanked her fiancé Ben Affleck in her acceptance speech.
After finally composing herself she was able to end her speech by joking: "Ben and everyone at home, wait for me to have dinner – I will be home by seven!"
Fellow actress Vanessa Hudgens presented Jennifer with her gong but not before the audience were treated to a montage of her work over the years.
As the clip came to an end, Jennifer began thanking "all the wonderful people I have been blessed to work with".
She went onto admit: "You are only as good as the people you work with and if you are lucky they make you better.
"Thank you to the people who gave me this life, the people who gave me joy, and the ones who broke my heart.
"The ones who were true and the ones who lied to me. Thank you to disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong, and to my children for teaching me to love."
The American actress, who is a proud mum to twins Emme and Maximllian, received a loud cheer from the audience at the Barker Hangar as she thanked the people who told her she "couldn't do this".
She also had some words for those who doubted her as she said: "I want to thank all the people who told me to my face and behind my back I couldn't do this – I really don't think I could have done this without you."
And before her joke for Ben, the star concluded: "It is an honour to be able to connect with audiences and you guys, and because of you I will continue to do justice to that honour as long as I am around.
"Thank you so much. And to Ben and everyone at home, wait for me to have dinner. I will be home by seven!"
It was a multi award evening for Jennifer who also picked up the golden popcorn trophy after her track On My Way was recognised for Best Song.
In her acceptance speech she admitted she "didn't expect this" but went onto say the tune was a "a really personal song".
"It's about faith and belief in every step of your journey," she said, before adding: "Even what seems like the mistakes, they're just a step in your yellow brick road. And it makes me so happy that it touched your hearts."
