Emotional This Morning marathon runner ‘blown away’ as viewers raise more than £156k

A marathon runner who appeared on This Morning on Wednesday has raised over £156,000 in support of his wife who suffers from a rare illness.

Scott Fisher from Kent went on the ITV show to raise awareness of the condition his partner is suffering from and charity Mast Cell Action, that is working to fight against the disease.

During his appearance, Scott revealed to hosts Rochelle Humes and Vernon Kay that he is running 27 marathons in 27 days in honour of his wife who has Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and has to take 27 pills day to combat the condition.

Viewers were left more than ready to donate after hearing the runner's story, surpassing Scott’s initial target of £27,000 a mere couple of hours later – which he was shocked to hear as Rochelle and Vernon divulged the great news.

“That’s amazing it’s almost as much as my mortage!” Scott responded jokily before becoming more emotional in reflection.

“I mean what do you say…it makes those sleepless nights in hospital and going to work, being the mum the dad and the carer, you know, going to London, the four-hour trips, waiting in hospital lines – it makes it all worth it.

“For all those carers that are out there doing that I just think, you know, look at what I’ve done and this is kind of hope for you and just keep going because I know how hard it is.

“It’s just blown my mind. Look at what the power of the people can do and hopefully it just keeps going.”

While appearing on This Morning, Scott sadly explained that his wife had “taken a turn for the worst” and hoped she would return home in time for Christmas to celebrate with their young daughter.

The ITV show contributed £1,000 to Scott’s cause and before appearing on the show, the runner had raised £48,634 on his JustGiving page, which now boasts well over that amount impressively.

"My wife Megan has Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) amongst lots of other conditions that started following severe sepsis after childbirth – that was 3 years ago," Scott explained on his page.

"MCAS is a disease from which many suffer but for which there is very little help. It can take up to 5 years to get a diagnosis…and there are only a handful of people who can treat it.

"Following years of misery, misdiagnosis and wondering if you're wife is going to live through her next attack, we now know MCAS is at the bottom of Megan’s condition, but she is not yet completely stable or in remission.

"Counting out those 27 pills one day gave me an idea about how I could draw attention to the problem, and help to change it. I decided I’d run 27 marathons in 27 days over this Christmas, with the objective of raising £27,000 for Mast Cell Action; the charity devoted to helping patients with MCAS.

"Thank you for reading, and fingers crossed you donate. Let's raise money, raise awareness and run 707.4 miles."

As well as donations, Scott's page has received many comments of praise from those sending offerings for his cause.

“Scott you are beyond inspiring,” wrote one person, while another added: “Keep going! Scott! You are a wonderful soul.”
