EastEnders unveils its first ever Sikh family as the handsome Panesars arrive in Walford… and quickly clash with a famous soap family
EastEnders has unveiled its first ever Sikh family.
The handsome Panesars brothers are set to ruffle feathers when they arrive in Walford later this year, as bosses have teased they will quickly get on the wrong side of one the soap’s most famous families.
The family will be made up of brothers Kheerat, Jags and Vinny, and viewers will have to wait and what drama they will cause when they move onto the famous Square.
New faces: EastEnders has revealed its first ever Sikh family, with the Panesar brothers (L-R) Vinny, Kheerat and Jags set to join the soap this autumn
Leading the family is the oldest brother Kheerat, who will be played by The Halcyon’s Jaz Deol.
He is said to be an affluent businessman who uses his powers of charm and persuasion to make the best of any situation.
But in soap fashion such a confident figure is bound to cause shock waves in Walford, a town run by the hard-nosed Mitchell clan.

Speaking about the role Deol said: ‘I’m very proud and excited to be joining such an iconic show and bringing to life a character that is a reflection of the cultural background that I and many others come from in today’s modern Britain.
‘I can’t wait to get started and for viewers to meet the Panesars.’
Inevitably Kheerat’s success sparks envy from his younger brother Jagvir (or Jags), after years after struggling to escape his brother’s shadow.
Drama: EastEnders bosses have also revealed that the brothers will cause shockwaves with one of Walford’s most established families
Played by Dead Ringer’s Amar Adatia, the character tries to make himself known with out-of-the-box ideas.
Amar explained: ‘My younger self would never have believed I’d be on EastEnders. It’s pretty amazing to be part of one of the most iconic television shows alongside some of the best actors in the business. I really am so grateful.’
Rounding up the family is the youngest brother Vinny, who will be played by acting newcomer Shiv Jalota, and is known for being spoilt as the baby of the family.

But in typical fashion, Vinny is far from the innocent golden boy that he seems.
Shiv explained: ‘It still hasn’t sunk in that I’m going to be on EastEnders. As a young boy, I remember being introduced to the Masood family and thinking there are people like me on television.
‘To be part of that next generation of people representing my identity is a blessing. I couldn’t be more excited.’
Exciting: Fans will first get to see the Panesar brothers on-screen this autumn
