The Britain’s Got Talent judge, whose moniker is inspired by the naughty 1970s Carry On series, thinks it makes her perfect for hosting new Sky show Sex: A Bonkers History.
The series looks at sex throughout history and has some scandalous revelations about famous names – including how Prince Albert was forced to hide from passionate Queen Victoria.
Co-host and historian Dan Jones also reveals he was spanked by a dominatrix and Amanda opted for planning a shopping list to distract her from one steamy scene in the five-part series.
Amanada, 52, said: “The show came on to my radar and it was something for me because I am ‘Carry on Mandy’. It’s very tongue in cheek, fun and lightweight so that will be why I was offered it.
“When we read the pitch we both thought it was brilliant because you’re learning about stuff that no show has ever really covered before, which is obviously very interesting relatable and everybody’s got in common. I said it was like Horrible Histories for adults, it’s exactly that, there’s a lot of re-enactment from actors, we get to dress up a lot which is one of the biggest reasons I did it.
“I am Cleopatra, Queen Charlotte, Marilyn Monroe… I mean, I was like, ‘Yes… living my best life’.”
Amanda borrowed one outfit to wear to a party and has kept the wig she wore when she dressed up as Queen Charlotte.
She explained: “Well, I took them home then I went to my friends 50th. It’s all on Instagram… I’ve also got the Queen Charlotte wig at home.”

One of shows explores the Victorian era and the insatiable sexual appetite of the reigning monarch.
“You look at Queen Victoria, who everyone sees as a sort of po-faced, austere, non-sexual woman who actually had how many children, several children!
Albert had to sort of hide in the palace from her because she had a huge appetite and that’s fantastic to know. When you look back now and you see her on the stamp, when you see this woman, you just know that she actually loved her husband.”
Some scenes were even too much for Carry On Mandy and when the show was exsploring tantric sex classes, she admits: “I felt so embarrassed.
I was mentally doing the Ocado shop when I was doing that scene. I felt so sorry for the actors re-enacting.”

Recalling another memorable encounter, she reveals: “Well, that was a fun day when we met that dominatrix lady in the Freud Museum in Hampstead and poor Dan, she did hit you, didn’t she? She was gentle?”
Dan responded: “No, she wasn’t, she was not gentle.”
