A Place In The Sun’s Laura Hamilton, 39, has spoken about narrowly missing out on purchasing a property she spotted while filming the Channel 4 series. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the fitness influencer candidly admitted to being “gutted” after missing out on buying a ski chalet in France to add to her property portfolio.
I was gutted, gutted

When asked whether she had ever come close to purchasing a property she had spotted while filming the hit series, the star admitted she had.
“Four years ago, before we bought the coffee shop, I’d actually put an offer in on a ski chalet in Morzine,” she confessed.
The model said that upon her return to the UK, she ran the idea by her financial advisor.
“I came back from being away filming with this couple in Morzine and said to my financial advisor that I really want to buy this,” she said.
However, the star’s dreams were crushed when she was told that purchasing the property wasn’t a viable option for her at the time.
“He was like, ‘Laura, you can’t at the moment, to raise this money and do this etc’, and I was gutted, gutted.”
However, the TV host added that she believes the chalet purchase wasn’t meant to be, as she went on to buy her local village shop, Lord Roberts On The Green.
“Then Lord Roberts happened, and look where I’m at four years down the line, so that’s what I mean [when I say] things happen for a reason,” she divulged.
Laura added: “I wasn’t supposed to buy that chalet in Morzine at that time, there might be another time in my life where that will come but it wasn’t then.
“What was right for me then was Lord Roberts on the green,” she explained.
Last month, the A Place In The Sun star spoke about her decision to sell her family business.
Laura and husband Alex Goward purchased the village shop on their local green four years ago, but have now put it on the market in a bid to move on with other projects.
“The reason why we’re selling the shop is because everything that I’ve done [with property] since I was 19 is buying and selling,” she explained.
“In many ways what I’ve done with Lord Roberts is I bought a dilapidated building, did a commercial renovation and residential renovation as we created a flat above the shop and a semi-detached house.”
The star added: “Then renovated it all, sold off the residential then obviously built the business, built the brand, and now we’ve come through the pandemic to the other side and actually, it’s sort of been more successful this side of the pandemic really.”
In early March, Laura took to Instagram to reveal that she was selling her coffee shop.
“Whilst it’s now time to pass the reins over to someone else, I’m excited that I’m going to be helping lots of other people get into business & property!” she wrote.
However, despite it being a purely business-based decision, Laura admitted that it was bittersweet to leave the shop behind after four years.
She explained: “Obviously there’s a part of me that’s sad, as the staff that work here make it what it is, it really is a family here rather than just staff that work for a coffee shop.
“So I’m more sad about that more than anything else, but it’s what I do,” she added.
A Place In The Sun is on weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
