Olly Murs has claimed Simon Cowell begged him to return to The X Factor – three years after his widely panned stint as co-host with Caroline Flack.
The Troublemaker singer, who is returning as a mentor for The Voice this weekend, had co-presented the 2015 series of the show, but was criticised for making a huge blunder when he prematurely announced one of the contestants had been voted off.
The mistake was so highly publicised that Olly sought professional help in the wake to cope with the resulting anxiety.
In the wake of him leaving the show, Olly and Simon didn’t speak – amid rumours they had fallen out.
And now he’s revealed that Simon put a stop to their ongoing feud by making him an offer this summer.
Appearing on Friday’s Good Morning Britain, Olly was asked about the X Factor situation.
"Is it true Simon Cowell tried to lure you back?" Kate Garraway questioned him.
"He did. He did in the summer. Listen, I love Simon, love X Factor, nothing but love for the show, but just being on The Voice with the coaches, it wasn’t about money," Olly revealed.
"It was more about the chemistry we had as a team. If one of them wasn’t coming back it might have been a different decision. I just love the show, I love the people on it and they gave me an amazing opportunity as a coach and to help other people. So I’m having a great time on it."
Of the new series of The Voice, Olly said it’s a much more emotional and intimate show than it has been in the past.
"There’s a very special moment between Tom and a contestant and it just made everyone cry yesterday," he admitted.
Olly joins Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson, will.i.am and Emma Willis when The Voice returns on Saturday January 5 at 8pm on ITV.
