Coronation Street fans were overwhelmed by Roy Cropper’s heartwarming confession about close friend Carla Connor in the wake of the factory roof collapse.
He was surprised by the return of someone he and his late wife Hayley Cropper fostered years ago, called Wayne.
Wayne arrived on the Street following the factory roof collapse, which led to the death of Rana Habeeb, with him being the Health and Safety Investigator.
As the pair caught up, it became apparent that Wayne had no idea Hayley had passed away.
Roy told him about Hayley’s death, with Wayne wanting to make sure Roy was well looked after following the loss.
The character then told Wayne about the support he’d had from people including Carla, making a heartwarming admission.
He said: “Our friends Fiz and Tyrone were very supportive… and Carla. Hayley and Carla were very close, she was a great comfort to me. She still is.”
Wayne questioned whether he meant romantically, leaving Roy flustered before he set the record straight.
He continued: “No. It’s as if we’re a different species. I have come to rely on her somewhat, and she on me, she’s living with me now.”
Wayne suggested they had a “solid” friendship, to which Roy fondly agreed.
He replied: “Yes it is, though it has become somewhat strained as of late.
“My world would be a much sadder place if Carla Connor wasn’t part of it.”
Viewers were moved by the emotional scenes, with many loving their friendship over the years.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
