The SDM issued a letter to the labour inspector at Sabroom, asking the officer to issue “necessary identity cards” to the labourers engaged in railways and brick kilns.
A large number of migrant workers from Assam and Bangladesh, working in brick kilns of Sabroom sub-division in Tripura’s south district, are engaged in ‘love jihad’, cow slaughter and other anti-social activities, Vishwa Hindu Parishad claimed on Friday.
VHP’s south Tripura district president Biplab Sen met Sabroom sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Biplab Das and submitted a memorandum on this regard. “We want the administration to take stock of the situation and publish a list of photo identity cards for all workers who are engaged on contractual basis at these brick kilns so that no communal flare-ups happen,” Sen wrote in the memorandum.
Earlier in the day, a group of VHP, Bajrang Dal supporters took out a rally to press forward their demands. Shortly afterwards, the SDM issued a letter to the labour inspector at Sabroom, asking the officer to issue “necessary identity cards” to the labourers engaged in railways and brick kilns.
The development comes two days after a group of VHP and Bajrang Dal supporters caught five brick kiln workers allegedly slaughtering a cow. The workers were assaulted and were later rescued by the police. They were detained and produced before a court, which released them on bail.
