Two residents-cum-social activists, who confronted officials on the ongoing stormwater drain work in suburban Chennai, were on Saturday night arrested on charges of “rioting” and “criminally intimidating officials.”
The FIR accused the residents of “assault and use of criminal force to prevent public servants from discharging duties.”
The residents, R. Balachander and S. Kumar, on Saturday alleged that there were discrepancies in the award of tender for the Rs. 5 crore ‘cut and cover’ stormwater drain project and accused the contractor of commencing the digging operations without obtaining the work order.
