Victim was out on morning walk in Inderpuri when attacked
Two bike-borne men snatched a gold chain from a woman in west Delhi’s Inderpuri, the police said on Thursday. The entire incident has been captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area.
Thirty-four-year-old Roja who works as a human resource manager with an MNC in Gurugram, said, “I will never forget what happened with me on Monday. I could have died. I never thought living in a posh area could also be dangerous.”
On Monday at 6.15 a.m., Roja, who shifted to Delhi three years ago from Chennai, was out on a morning walk like every day, when she was targeted by the accused near C-park of the locality.
One of the accused got down from the bike and tried to snatch her gold chain. When she tried to resist, he pushed her and dragged her, the police said. She kept screaming for help but by the time a passer-by came to her rescue, the robbers fled the spot with the chain, the police said.
“A small piece of the chain is with me. I have received injuries on neck. I registered an FIR at Inderpuri police station. On Wednesday, the police called me for identification of five suspects. But, the accused were not among them,” said Ms. Roja.
The locals said it is the eighth snatching incident reported in the area in the last two years.
Pramod Jain, a local, said after the CCTV footage was shown on news channels, the police started patrolling frequently.
“They should be more active. It is a posh locality and daily senior citizens and adults go out on morning walks. We demand safety here,” said Mr. Jain. The case is an investigation, the police said.
“We have registered an FIR under IPC Section 392 [robbery]. We have rounded up several suspects for questioning,” said Monika Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
