He spoke about Nayanthara at a film promotion event
A section of the Tamil film fraternity came down heavily on Radha Ravi, actor and president of the Tamil Nadu Dubbing Union, for his distasteful comments about actress Nayanthara at a film event on Saturday.
Radha Ravi had made comments about the actress being cast to play the role of a ‘ghost’ and ‘Sita’ in different films at the trailer launch of the film Kolaiyuthir Kaalam starring Nayanthara in the lead role.
The actress was not present at the event.
A video of his speech from the event that was widely shared on social media platforms drew sharp criticism.
Many deemed his comments about Nayanthara insensitive and misogynistic.
K.J.R. Studios, a film production house, which made critically acclaimed films like Aramm and Viswasam and is producing Airaa, which is scheduled to release this week — all starring Nayanthara — put out a statement condemning Mr. Ravi.
It said that they would not be casting him in any of their films.
They urged the Nadigar Sangam to take appropriate action against him.
Director Vignesh Shivn, in a tweet, said it was sad to see the audience laughing and clapping for Mr. Ravi’s comments.
“Inappropriate event with unnecessary people sitting and knowing not what to speak! If this is called promoting a movie, then it’s good to stay away from such events,” he tweeted.
Director Milind Rau too on his Twitter page said he had taken a personal stand not to work with Mr. Ravi.
