India and Myanmar on Wednesday operationalised the landmark Land Border Crossing Agreement. Delegations from both sides came to Tamu in Manipur to inaugurate check-points on both sides of the border which turned the border agreement signed on 11 May into reality.
“The opening of the check posts will facilitate travel on both sides as people holding passports and a valid visa will be allowed to exit and enter through these border check posts,” said the Ministry of External Affairs in a release.
The Myanmar delegation for the opening ceremony was led by U Aye Lwin, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, and Dr. Suhel Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary of Manipur.
