“Shahs of Sunset” star Mercedes Javid is speaking out about her decision to share a recent hospitalization — despite keeping a low profile throughout the rest of her pregnancy.
“I just wanted to make sure that fans, followers, or viewers of the show don’t feel excluded,” Javid, 46, tells Page Six of her revealing Instagram. “I don’t want anyone to feel that there should be any secrecy in the process, and the outpour of well wishes is really awesome.”
According to Javid, people will often write her and make comments like, “We want to see the baby bump. Why are you hiding it? I don’t believe you’re pregnant.”
“That was a really weird thing for people to think that I would lie,” Javid says. “So for me, I thought, I better make sure that I keep everyone involved in the process as much as possible. That was my first move to show an effort that I will be keeping everyone [updated] on social, and once Bravo cameras take over, then they’ll see me even more.”
On Dec. 27, Javid and her husband, Tommy Feight, went to her doctor’s office in Los Angeles for a routine checkup. Doctors discovered her cervix had shrunk down from 4 to about 1.5 centimeters, and she was immediately transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
At the hospital, Javid was given an epidural and underwent emergency cervical cerclage surgery, which helps prevent premature labor and a miscarriage.
“When I took that video [I posted], it was honestly hard for me to even form sentences because I was so scared,” the reality star admits. “Tommy has been so incredible and loving. He’s just beyond what I ever expected from a husband in a situation like this.”
Her mother, Vida Javid, has also embraced her role as grandmother-to-be. “This is a woman who discouraged me from ever getting married and having children, so now that I’m doing what I want, she’s being loving and supportive — it’s great,” Javid says.
After spending 24 hours in the hospital, Javid was discharged but encouraged to stay in bed except to use the bathroom or shower. The reality star says she may have to stay on bed rest for “another month and a half.”
In the meantime, her “Shahs” co-stars are keeping her up to date on what’s going on with the group.
“Reza [Farahan] visits regularly,” Javid says. “Mike [Shouhed] has come by, and I have long conversations with Nema [Vand] and Destiny. I tell everyone to keep me entertained with their drama so that I can live vicariously. I’m deep in their IG stories.”
Filming for the show’s eighth season is set to start soon, according to Javid. “I think some of my [pregnancy] will be on the show, because I would not have given birth yet. I’ll be in my third trimester.”
In November, Javid, who underwent several rounds of IVF treatments, tweeted that she is expecting her first child on Mother’s Day.
